WhatsApp currently offers a feature that helps users plan events from group chats. Soon, this feature will be expanded to private chats as well, giving WhatsApp users more flexibility to create and manage their appointments.
WhatsApp to expand feature for scheduling events
As noted by WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp has enabled the creation of events from private chats, βexpanding beyond its previous availability in group chats.β The feature, which is already available for group chats, helps users to βplan meetings, set reminders, and coordinate appointments directly in chats.β Users can even set locations or add links to audio and video calls.
The idea, of course, is to convince users to choose WhatsApp over a dedicated calendar app to manage meetings and other appointments. After all, itβs much easier to do this when youβre already chatting to someone about an event.
Interestingly, WhatsAppβs move comes after rumors about Appleβs plans to launch a new app dedicated to sending invitations to in-person events. First revealed by 9to5Mac and corroborated by Bloomberg, this app will be a new way for iPhone and iPad users to invite people to meetings and parties. The new app is expected to be announced in the next few days.
Back to WhatsApp, Meta has also been exploring letting users open View Once media on linked devices, which is great for people who use WhatsApp on more than one device. Currently, View Once media (which disappears after being opened) can only be viewed on the primary device on which WhatsApp is registered.
Thereβs no word on when these new features will become available to the public. WhatsApp is available for free on the App Store. However, the beta version is only available to selected users on TestFlight.
