If youβre on the hunt for the ultimate first person shooter gaming monitor, this rumored new Viewsonic 520Hz OLED gaming monitor might be the display to add to the top of your list. If the rumors are true, it would be the worldβs first to combine such a fast refresh rate with a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution on an OLED panel.
This combination of features is sure to lead to an incredible experience for all manner of games but will be particularly beneficial for first-person shooters of the style where long draw distances and graphical detail are important. That means Call of Duty Warzone and Delta Force players could find this new Viewsonic display to be the best gaming monitor for their needs.
The rumor of this new display comes from German tech site, ComputerBase.de. The site claims that rumors have emerged of the new panel, failing to cite any sources for the leak, so take these claims with a grain of salt. However, with Samsung set to launch a 500Hz, 1440p OLED monitor, itβs certainly more than possible that a 520Hz panel is soon to arrive.
The site claims the panel will offer a variable refresh rate of up to 520Hz, and may or may not use Samsungβs QD-OLED technology. It then also goes on to say the panel has a claimed response time of 1ms MPRT (moving picture response time), which would actually be very slow for an OLED. Weβd normally expect a response time to be at least 10x faster than that. As such, we do wonder if there has been a misreading of the leak, and that the new monitor in fact uses an LCD panel.
Regardless, ComputerBase goes on to say the panel will include support for AMD FreeSync Premium and that βit is assumed that the display will have a WQHD resolution of 2,560 Γ 1,440 pixels and a display diagonal of 27 inches.β Thatβs a lot of vagaries, but ComputerBase has a solid reputation as a tech news source so weβre giving this story a little more credence than we might for a more anonymous tech leak source.
Perhaps the most crucial bit of information about this leak is that ComputerBase claims the new panel will be unveiled at CES 2025. Thatβs the worldβs largest tech trade show, and it takes place every January in Las Vegas. Itβs also where weβre expecting AMD and Nvidia to launch their next generations of gaming GPUs, including the RTX 5090 and RX 8800 XT, among the hundreds of other new tech products that are likely to be showcased there. As such, that would be good timing to launch a new display of this caliber.
Whatever happens, weβll be on the show floor reporting on our experience of the new products as they appear, and weβll be sure to make a beeline for this panel if it does arrive. In the meantime, you can read about an OLED gaming monitor that hits nearly 500Hz in our LG Ultragear 32GS95UE review. That panel can hit 480Hz at 1080p and switch to 4K at 240Hz as well.
