Metaβs Threads app may be seeking to further push into the territory occupied by the app formerly known as Twitter, taking on one of Elon Muskβs favorite features.
The feature is known as Loop, and one developer who spotted the reference said that it might be similar to the Communities feature on X, or subreddits β¦
Alessandro Paluzzi first found the feature.
Threads is working on Loops π
Chris Messina appears to have independently spotted it.
It appears that Threads is working on a Communities feature called βLoopβ, which might be similar to subreddits or X Communities.
All I can tell is that youβll be able to Join and Leave. π€·π»ββοΈ
This is new as of Threads v352.0.0.
Meta did confirm the finding, but told TechCrunch that it isnβt yet being tested.
Reached for comment, Instagram did not confirm its plans for these Loop communities or what the feature may entail. However, the company did say the feature was in early development and is not testing either internally or externally at this time.
The site notes that Musk seems to view Communities as an important feature for the future of X.
While Xβs Communities have not been a standout addition as of yet, X owner Elon Musk has high hopes for their further growth. Since acquiring the social network, Musk has promoted X Communitiesβ growth and improvement. Earlier this April, he reshared a post that touted how X members were spending 495% more time in Communities, and time spent was up over 600% year-over-year. He also often shares or reshares posts about Communities updates, like the addition of an Explore tab, the ability for moderators to pin posts, timeline sorting options, and other changes that could help Xβs feature challenge Redditβs communities, known as subreddits.
