Apple TV+ is over five years old now, and in its early days series were rarely canceledβbut thatβs started to change. The cancellation Iβve been most disappointed by is Schmigadoon!, but now it seems the show is getting new life thanks to a stage adaptation.
Schmigadoon! stage adaptation just opened in Washington D.C.
Schmigadoon! ran for two seasons on Apple TV+, and was gearing up for its third when it was canceled early last year. Despite the third season being fully written, including 25 new songs, Apple decided not to renew it.
Now, however, a stage production has just debuted at Washington D.C.βs Kennedy Center for a limited run.
Per Entertainment Weekly, the stage adaptation features some new songs, including at least one that was written for the TV show but ultimately cut.
Cinco Paul, the Apple TV+ series showrunner, is the man behind the stage version too, which is based on the events of season 1.
When asked whether the already-written season 3 will ever see the light of day, perhaps as a stage production or in some other form, Paul replied:
There have been some talks about it. Most of the movement is inside my heart, but Iβm not giving up. Iβm really proud of the work that all of us in the writersβ room did, and I think the fans would really love it. Take heart in the fact that I have not given up and there are other people that are fans of the show who would also love to see that happen. You just never know; life is long.
Schmigadoon! has two seasons available on Apple TV+, and if youβre in the D.C. area and want to see the stage show, you can find more information here.
Apple TV+ isΒ available for $9.99 per monthΒ and features hit TV shows and movies likeΒ Ted Lasso,Β Severance,Β The Morning Show,Β Silo, andΒ Shrinking.
