While Valve no longer posts the monthly Steam Deck most played lists to social media, it still harbors an ever-updating list on its website. The list can be viewed with weekly, monthly, or yearly data, and as October comes to a close, there are some big surprises, including a highly-ranking Unsupported game.
The Steam Deck is still the best handheld gaming PC for the masses, and many of the best Steam Deck games run great on the console despite its limitations. As the spooky season nears, the landscape of most played games on the Steam Deck is very surprising, with multiple Unsupported games and a JRPG that is exceeding expectations.
Steam Deck Most Played October 2024
Based on the data from the past month, which covers September 30 to October 29, the most played game on Steam Deck is once again Baldurβs Gate 3. However, the big surprise is that JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio sits in third place, an incredible achievement for a game that was only released on October 11.
Meanwhile, Diablo 4 has surged seven places up to fourth thanks to the release of Vessel of Hatred, and indie hit Brotato has cracked the top ten sixteen months after its release thanks to new content drops.
Other surprise entries include Halls of Torment at 14, and TCG Card Shop Simulator at 17, both games that have found popularity through streaming audiences.
Unsupported entries
Five Unsupported games feature in the top 100 games, which is quite a high number as these games are often not worth playing on the device for performance reasons.
Ghost of Tsushima and Grand Theft Auto 5βs story modes are still playable, but in the case of Black Myth: Wukong (11), Silent Hill 2 (96), and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (98), these games canβt be configured to run well on the Deck, according to Valve.
Regardless, they feature on the list anyway, meaning gamers are trying their best to find ideal settings, or are simply dealing with the poor performance.
Steam Deck games to watch next month
By the time November comes to a close, I expect Sonic X Shadow Generations to establish itself in the top ten of the Steam Deck most played. It debuted at number 64 this month but was only released on October 25.
Red Dead Redemption is also finally out on PC on October 29, and early signs from the Red Dead Redemption system requirements suggest it will run great on Steam Deck, so expect this game to shoot up the charts and crack the top 25 sooner rather than later.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is Steam Deck Verified and releases on October 31. Given the hype around this game already, I fully expect it to make the top 100 games, but it could quite easily crack the top five if it appeals to a similar crowd to Baldurβs Gate 3.
Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to struggle after GTA Online was made inaccessible due to anti-cheat. It finds itself at number 26 this month after falling 17 places, and this trend is expected to continue. I donβt expect it to fall off the list entirely, but it should fall below 50 if the current trajectory continues.
I also expect that the aforementioned Unsupported titles Silent Hill 2 and Space Marine 2 are doomed to fall off the list entirely next month, given their already precarious positioning.
