The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 could be with us even quicker than expected, as a new leak tells us the forthcoming gaming GPU range will be with us soon. The new RTX 5000 graphics card lineup was originally expected to be unveiled at the CES tradeshow in January 2025, but it now looks as though we may even get a glimpse of the new GPUs in 2024.
The new RTX 5090 is widely expected to be the best graphics card when Nvidia eventually unleashes it out into the wild, with rumors that the new GPU will come equipped with a massive 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM and 21,760 CUDA cores. However, Nvidia has kept its lips sealed about any official release date or announcement for this GPU so far, meaning our only sources are leaks and rumors right now.
This latest rumor comes from regular (and often-reliable) tech leaker kopite7kimi, who tells us that we βwill meet GeForce of Blackwell soon,β in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter). Blackwell is the latest GPU architecture from Nvidia, and itβs already used in the companyβs data center GPUs, but itβs also expected to form the foundation of the forthcoming RTX 5000 gaming GPU lineup.
Of course, the definition of βsoonβ is open to interpretation, and you could argue that the already-rumored announcement at CES in January 2025 is already soon. However, as thatβs still two months away, weβre hoping kopite7kimi is hinting at an announcement coming in 2024. Many others have asked for clarification on X, including another regular tech leaker, Kepler_L2, who asked βBefore CES?β However, kopite7kimi hasnβt replied, meaning this statement of βsoonβ is all weβve got right now.
Nvidia does have form for releasing a few details of its new GPUs before the full release date, however. For example, the company first announced the RTX 4090 back on September 20, 2022 at the GPU Technology Conference (GTC), revealing the number of CUDA cores, power draw, and memory of the new GPU, as well as a few details of two new RTX 4080 cards, but the full specs list was still kept under wraps.
The full details of the RTX 4090 werenβt released until later, with the graphics card eventually being released on October 12, 2022. In that time, Nvidia also responded to criticism about the naming of the lesser RTX 4080 12GB card, leading to it being βunlaunchedβ by the company. The 16GB RTX 4080 then wasnβt released until November 16, 2022, nearly two months after the initial announcement.
As such, we could hope that Nvidia might give us a taster of whatβs to come from the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 in 2024, with the full details potentially coming at CES. At this point, it seems unlikely that the new GPUs will be fully released in 2024 in time for the holiday season, however.
