I love my Steam Deck, but recently I downloaded an app thatβs effectively stopped me from playing games in my Steam library. Chiaki4Deck is a piece of software that allows you to remote play from your PS5 to your Steam Deck, and I just canβt pull myself away from it.
Despite being the best handheld gaming PC, Iβm not playing any PC games on my Steam Deck OLED right now. Instead, Iβm working my way through my PS5 backlog, a task that until recently seemed too daunting given that my only option to play the games was via my TV.
Upon discovering Chiaki4Deck recently, I decided to take it for a spin and found that it was remarkably easy to download and connect to my PS5. I would say the entire process from booting up my Deck, to having the program in my Steam library and ready to use took no longer than 10 minutes.
Now, whenever I want to play on my PS5 while the TV is occupied by my wife or daughter, I can just grab my Steam Deck, boot up Chiaki4Deck, and Iβm tapped into remote play for my PS5 within seconds.
Better still, the experience isnβt really any different to that of the PlayStation Portal, having had to opportunity to give one a try recently as well. The Portal has its charms, and the design is cool, but when Iβm done with my PS5, I canβt exactly do anything else with it. At least with the Steam Deck, once my current obsession with playing through PlayStation exclusives wears off, I can return to my Steam games.
If you spend more than five minutes on the Steam Deck Reddit page, youβll see that there are plenty of ways to enjoy games above and beyond your Steam library, whether itβs other storefronts, with emulation, or remote play solutions like Chiaki.
While Iβm a little worried that my time spent playing PS5 games on Steam Deck is stopping me from working through my already out-of-control Steam Pile of Shame, I can take solace in the fact that my console backlog is at least shrinking.
