We thought weβd seen the last of the mind-blowing SSD deals for a bit after the Black Friday SSD bonanza, but weβve just spotted another bargain if youβre looking to expand your gaming PC storage to install more games. This Samsung 980 Pro gaming SSD deal enables you to pick up a 2TB PCIe 4.0 drive for just $119.99, from both Best Buy, saving you $50 over the usual price.
Iβve been using this PCIe 4.0 Samsung drive for several years in my gaming PC now, and Iβve found it to be plenty fast enough for my needs, plus this 2TB drive will give you lots of capacity for the latest super-size game installs as well. We gave it a score of 8/10 in our Samsung 980 Pro review, thanks to its superb performance for the money, earning it a place on our guide to the best gaming SSD, and itβs now even cheaper.
In our tests, the Samsung 980 Pro managed a sequential read speed of 6,866MB/s, making it nearly twice as fast as the best PCIe 3.0 drives, including the basic Samsung 980. Itβs not as fast as the flagship, as we found in our Samsung 990 Pro review, but thereβs not much in it. The write speed isnβt quite so quick, at 4,913MB/s, but this is still well in front of any PCIe 3.0 drive. Neither result is as fast as the latest PCIe 5.0 drives, of course, but you canβt complain when youβre getting 2TB of storage space for just $119.99.
We found this drive gets quite hot when itβs running at full load, but itβs also quite easy to keep in check with a standard heatsink. Iβve just been using a standard PCIe 4.0 SSD heatsink on my motherboard to keep my 980 Pro cool, and it does the job fine.
To take advantage of this deal, click on this link here to buy it from Best Buy, or on this link here to buy it from the Samsung web store, where itβs the same price. Weirdly, Best Buy describes the deal as a $100 discount, while Samsung says itβs only a $10 discount, but Iβd take both figures with a grain of salt.
The 2TB Samsung 980 Pro first launched with a huge price of $429.99 in 2021, and it still cost over $250 until the middle of this year, and has been hovering around the $170 point since (it currently costs $169 on Amazon). Either way, $119.99 is a great price for this 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.
Youβll need a 4x PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot on your motherboard to run this drive at full speed, and while it will also run in a PCIe 3.0 M.2 slot, it will be slower as a result as it wonβt have enough bandwidth at its disposal.
