If you’re quick, you can snag yourself a nice little gaming monitor upgrade that’s ideal for those just starting out on their gaming PC journey or who are simply looking for as affordable a gaming screen upgrade as they can get. With this LG gaming monitor deal netting you a 24-inch, 100Hz, 1080p display for under $80, it’s a simply fantastic deal.

LG is a mainstay of our best gaming monitor guide, with the dual-mode OLED technology in the LG 32GS95UE putting it at the top of the pile. Moreover, its IPS screen technology – as used in this panel – has long been among the best choice for LCD gaming monitors.

The heart of this panel is its 24-inch, 1080p resolution, 100Hz IPS LCD panel that LG claims has an impressive 1,300:1 contrast ratio – that’s really high for an IPS LCD. That means you’ll get a larger difference between the brightest and darkest parts of the image, for a more punchy, impactful display. Combined with the excellent viewing angles that IPS provides, this should make for a great display for general work and play.

Meanwhile, that 100Hz refresh rate means you’re getting a marked step up in gaming smoothness compared to an entry level 60Hz screen. With even budget smart phones featuring screens with fast refresh rates to make scrolling feel smoother, the debate is over as to whether you can really see the difference with a faster refresh rate. There are understandably a few features you miss out on with a display that’s this cheap. For instance, it only has one HDMI input (and one D-SUB), doesn’t include speakers, it has no HDR support, and its stand only offers tilt, so you’ll need to invest in a monitor arm to get more adjustability.

However, the single HDMI does support AMD Freesync for smooth gaming that’s free from image tearing and stutter when used with AMD graphics cards. The display likely supports G-Sync on Nvidia cards too but isn’t officially rated to do so.

Normally priced at $99, both Best Buy and LG’s own site are currently listing this LG 24MR400 gaming monitor at just $79, for a healthy $20 saving. That may not sound like much, but it’s a 20% difference at this budget end of the market.

One thing to note, however, is that Best Buy is listing the saving on this display as being $90, with the screen marked down from a supposed original price of $169. However, this isn’t a realistic regular price for this panel but instead one of those instances of a retailer temporarily raising the price of an item and then marking it down as discounted later. It’s still a genuinely great price compared to its actual regular $99 price, though.
