The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT is reportedly going to launch in a 32GB variant after the initial 16GB version launches, according to a new rumor. However, given whatβs been rumored so far about this gaming GPUβs likely specs, itβs unlikely this extra VRAM will make much difference to gaming performance.
While AMD did announce this new GPU at the CES trade show in January 2025, it hasnβt said much since then. Thereβs been no official announcement on the RX 9070 XT specs, and only an early March launch window teased by the GPU maker. Given that AMD is abandoning high-end gaming GPUs for this generation, weβre not expecting AMD to challenge Nvidia when it comes to the very best graphics card performance, with the RX 9070 XT likely to offer mid-tier performance instead.
This new rumor popped up on the Chiphell industry boards, with industry insider and regular leaker zhangzhonghao claiming in a recent post that a version of the RX 9070 XT with increased video memory was planned. While zhangzhonghao suggests that the capacity βis not clear yetβ and was still under debate, he did claim that βit should also be 32GBβ and that a launch would happen this year.
In a second Chiphell post, zhangzhonghao confirms that the β9070 XT 32GBβ as the leaker names it is going to be βmainly for AIβ and will ship with a βmuch higherβ price than the standard 16GB model, going on to state that it would release at the βend of Q2.β
Itβs been widely speculated up until now that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT would launch with only 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM, putting it on an even keel with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080, at least on that specific measure. Performance-wise, the RX 9070 XT is strongly expected to be a mid-tier performer when it comes to games, where 16GB is enough VRAM. AI applications will certainly benefit, however, where language models require ever-increasing amounts of memory.
While the RX 9070 XT 32GB isnβt likely to be a card to appeal to gamers, especially with an increased price tag, the 16GB model is most certainly on our radar as a potential competitor for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 that the average gamer might just want, especially with a rumored price tag of around $500.
